Mining Agency to Share Information with Revenue Department

Written by | Mining Law, Tax and Customs

On 10 January 2019, an extract of the agreement between the Brazilian National Mining Agency (“ANM”) and the Federal Revenue Department (“RFB”) was published in the Federal Gazette.

The agreement will allow the ANM and the RFB to exchange information that may be for the “mutual benefit” of both agencies.

According to the RFB, the agreement will provide a “great leap in the intelligence and effectiveness of the mining royalties (“CFEM”) inspection actions”, as data will be cross-checked between the two agencies.

Moreover, the RFB expects that this will provide an improvement in the quality of statistical data gathered, which will lead to greater efficiency in ANM’s regulatory role.
